NYU Casino Night

Kapture was honored to be a co-sponsor at NYU’s Casino Night.  A special thanks to our partners: MenScience, Organic Avenue, Pop Pub, Dos Toros, Atrium and Blades!  The night would not have been the same without their support and help.

Here are some amazing photographs of Casino Night!

Our President, Michael Szewczyk, checks his phone before the big event!

Our lovely interns, Veronica and Sophia, get ready to have an amazing night!

We gave out lollipops, stickers, MenScience skin care packages AND we auctioned off 3 brand new iPads!

Colin and Charlie worked so hard to put together our amazing Casino Night.  Here they are taking a hard earned break with some gorgeous showgirls!

Michael snaps a photo of our photo booth photos.

Talented NYU students provided the live music.  The bands were incredible!

Our CEO, Brian Martelli, had a blast!

Also, we’d like to thank Bosco for providing the Photo Booth and “kapturing” some amazing moments.

There was a line out the door for our Photo Booth.  Even Housie Maguire, the NYU School Mascot, got a picture.  His is hilarious.
And a great shot from some amazing students!
The Kapture team was so honored and delighted to be at Casino Night.  We hope everyone else had as much fun as we did.

Get Your Vegan On: Stogo Ice Cream

Want a little treat without the steaming hot side dish of guilt?  Stogo, a Gourmet Organic Dairy-Free Ice Cream shop, is the perfect place to grab health conscious snacks.

Stogo uses only the finest dairy free, organic, and wholesome ingredients for their frozen desserts, ice cream, cupcakes and cookies.  Everything is made from scratch and the deserts are served in biodegradable cups.  Stogo’s mission is obvious: to bring healthy, delicious, eco-conscious sweets to the East Village without the attitude or high prices.

The place is brightly lit and clean.  A modern red bench marks the front of the shop.  The window is lined with bar stools.  The friendly interior of the shop speaks to the low key vibe perpetuated by Stogo.  No nonsense, no additives, no attitude and no dairy.  Finally, a vegan ice cream shop I can get behind!

And the ice cream is amazing.  I tried the Salted Caramel Pecan (pictured above) and had my mind blown.

If you’re on 10th street (between 2nd & 3rd ave), drop by Stogo today.

Who We Love: Azaleas

In my experience, I’ve noticed that there are two types of shops that will make any woman giggle: puppy stores and lingerie shops.

The former is obvious, the latter perhaps not so much.

But, I must confess, as soon as I stepped inside the door of Azaleas, a tiny East Village lingerie shop, all I could do was giggle with delight and sigh “awww” at all the lacy underthings.

I stopped by the charming store yesterday and fell into lingerie heaven.  Azaleas is stocked full of sweet polka dot bra and pantie sets, lacy undergarments, sheer nighties, tribal swim suits.

Le sigh.

I find myself stressed out at the thought of underwear shopping. Large stores like Victoria’s Secret or Bloomies are often hard to navigate, let alone find a sales representative who can devote time to your bra fitting needs.

Not the case with Azaleas. The staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgable.  The selection is adorable and well curated.  The store itself is quaint.  I love this little spot.

I must confess, I’m head over heels in love with Azaleas, the tiniest lingerie and swim wear shop tucked deep in the East Village.  I’d highly recommend that you check it out.  They even have an ecommerce site.

Who We Love: Just Salad

I’m pleased to announce that Kapture has partnered with the tasty & eco-conscious salad chain, Just Salad.

When I worked at NBC, I would eat at Just Salad’s 30 Rock location every day.  I just loved the fact that you could run down from the office, grab a healthy salad.  I had free reign to customize my salad, directing the lady behind the counter to sprinkle shaved carrots, sliced grape tomatos and seasame crunchies atop my perky lettuce.

Now, contrary to what you might believe, Just Salad serves up more than, well, just salad.  The salad giant also features delicious wraps, exotic smoothies & fresh made frozen yogurt.

I dropped by Just Salad today and chatted with the effervescent and bubbly, Jennifer Konde, Director of Customer Relations, to find out more about all things lettuce!

According to Konde, Nick Kenner and Rob Crespi opened Just Salad in 2006 when they grew tired of the lunch options available to them in Midtown Manhattan.
They partnered with the amazing Chef Laura Pensiero who now designs the handcrafted salads and dressings in Just Salad’s test kitchen.

Today, I tried the delightful Tuna Nee-Swah (the phonetic spelling of Tuna Niçoise) followed by a little taste of frozen yogurt.  The Tuna Nee-Swah was light and fresh, served with chopped tuna, crisp greens and a lemon wedge.  And the frozen yogurt was ultra decadent and refreshing.  Yum!

The local salad shop turned franchise is committed to bringing quick, healthy food to the masses! And, in a twist of fate, I learned that Just Salad also has a dating website, called SaladMatch.com

Konde explained that you can create your favorite salad and meet your “Salad Match” based on your topping preferences.
“We wanted to create a quirky community within Just Salad.  And so, Salad Match was born! We’ve seen people go on dates from it, too!” Konde says.

Not only can you find a delicious salad, but now you can find love, too.   Single salad lovers rejoice!

Now, if you’re not in the mood for romance, and are craving good ol’ lettuce, you can choose a designer salad (imagined by Chef Laura herself).   Or, if you’re feeling a bit adventurous and want to customize your own salad, you have 60+ ingredients to choose from.  And best of all, Just Salad is not only good for you, but it’s great for the environment too!

Konde grabbed a brightly colored orange bowl from the shop’s display and brought it back to where we were seated.

“This,” she said, holding the orange bowl up to the light,  ”is the Just Salad Reusable Bowl.  It’s one of the coolest things about Just Salad.” Konde explained.

Just Salad encourages their customers to purchase a Just Salad Reusable Bowl for $1 and receive two free essential toppings or one free cheese when they bring the bowl into the store & reuse the bowl at the store. It’s an amazing initiative that helps reduce waste and promotes eco-friendly living.

Just Salad also sells reusable bamboo utensils, which I think is pretty neat.  The interior of the restaurant uses bamboo and other environmentally conscious materials in it’s construction.   And, because Just Salad not only cares about sustaining a healthy earth, but also healthy humans, Just Salad uses only the freshest ingredients and often sources seasonal ingredients for it’s changing menus.

All in all, I had an absolutely amazing experience at Just Salad.  The service was quick, easy and friendly; the food was fresh, yummy and healthy and earth friendly vibe really made me feel at home!

If you’re in the mood for lunch and want something healthy on the fly, check out Just Salad and eat your (artichoke) heart out!

New Kid on the Block: Good Beer

Growler.  The word conjures up images of howling coyotes and red eyed werewolves who stalk their prey at the full moon. Never before had I heard the term until I stepped inside the craft beer shop, Good Beer, located at 422 East 9th Street.

But I soon learned that a growler is neither canine nor hairy human.  It’s a 64 oz jug that bears an uncanny resemblance to a moonshine jar.  And it’s apparently the craft beer drinker’s accessory du jour.

So, if you head to Good Beer, grab a Growler and get it filled up with fresh draft beer.

Good Beer is a sunken hybrid bar/beer shop that has a general store feel.  The walls are lined with wood shelves, cases of beer and refrigerator units filled with, yep, you guessed it, more beer!  You can get a fresh draft of some high quality suds, stock up on your bottled beers, get charcuterie, cheeses, sausages and hotdogs.  If it pairs with a beer, you’ll likely find it here.

I was pretty overwhelmed by Good Beer’s selection but came to the conclusion. If they don’t have it, it probably doesn’t exist.

Good Beer’s stock is all high quality, gourmet items with an emphasis on organic, heritage and regional products.  While 80% of the beer is American made, the other 20% is from Germany, Belgium and the UK.

I’m pretty pumped that we’re partnered with Good Beer.  I know you’ll like this shop so check it out when you’re hankering for a pint!

Check out Good Beer’s website here for more information.

Hidden Gem: Atlas Cafe

Like, woah! Kapture is now partnered with Atlas Cafe, a healthy and tasty place to grab food on the fly.

(cupcake photo reblogged from vegangirlnyc

Tucked into a tiny space on 2nd Ave and 4th Street, Atlas Cafe is a Morroccan bazaar of vegan, vegetarian and non-veggie fare.  This darling little spot is the epitome of the East Village.  It’s easy to miss this little spot if you’re in a hurry.  Keep your eyes peeled for  brightly colored tiled tables, walls of handwritten menu boards and of course, the scent of delicious food wafting out the door and onto the street.

All of this makes Atlas Cafe a must-go-to when looking for a quick and healthy bite on the run.

Check out the coffees, fruit shakes, crepes, wraps, paninis, sandwiches and the hearty couscous salad.  My favorite? The Tunisian Tuna Sandwich and the famous frozen yogurt. Delish!

Atlas Cafe is located at 73 Second Ave, near 4th Street in the East Village.

Who We Love: The Bean

The Kapture team and I are totally excited to announce our partnership with the downtown coffee house extraordinaire, The Bean!  Huzzah!

(photo taken by The Bean, original source here)

The Bean is a no nonsense coffee house with big flavor and a bunch of personality.  Open since 2003, the Bean is the unofficial East Village go-to spot for coffee and conversation.  I dropped by the 2nd Ave location to grab an iced coffee and learn more.

(red velvet cake photo taken by The Bean, original source here)

According to co-owner Ike Escava, “Everything about The Bean is influenced by the vibe of our neighborhood. Everything from the food, the staff, the decor, the music, the coffee… it’s all about bringing out the flavor of the East Village.”

If you check out the awesome mosaics that cover the exterior of the 2nd Ave location, it’s obvious that the scraps and shards of the East Village are literally embedded into the very soul of The Bean.

The Bean is an awesome spot to down a delicious iced coffee, catch up on your reading and lounge on one of the sofas in the back.  The atmosphere is friendly, low key and artistic.  Colorful art lines the walls. The high ceilings and floor to ceiling glass windows create an open and inviting space to sit, chill and people watch.

The whole restaurant is airy, light and modern while still managing to retain a classic East Village vibe.  Pressed tin ceilings, your mother’s dining tables and colorful mosaics recall the bohemian side of the surrounding neighborhood.

The Bean definitely has it’s own persona… just check out their quirky website!

So, if you’re looking for a step outside your normal coffee routine, want to support a cool local establishment in NYC, or, if you’re simply searching for that next coffee joint to call home, look no further.

Just check out the Bean, located at 54 2nd Ave!

What We Do

The mobile app market is oversaturated with the latest and greatest in iPhone apps.  It seems like every day, new apps are cropping up like dandelions on an unmowed lawn.  So, when push comes to shove, how do you separate the wheat from the chaff?

Easy! Find an app that makes you smile & makes your life easier!

Kapture does that.

Kapture uses a photo-sharing platform to reward you for taking and sharing photos of your favorite merchants and brands online with your friends on Facebook. Kapture connects you to your local merchants and helps you find cool deals, trendy spots and fun photo opportunities in your neighborhood.  Kapture helps you become a tastemaker and a trend setter.  All you have to do is use our geo-located map to find a list of carefully curated merchants and brands near you.

Just swing by, snap a photo, and redeem it for a cool deal, discount or freebie at your favorite store.

To hell with loyalty points, clipping coupons or buying deals online.  Kapture makes it easy to interact with your favorite brands, show your friends your great taste and get rewarded.

Pretty neat for a mobile app.

Who We Love: Battery Place Market

Battery Place Market is easily THE place to go for fresh food, produce and gourmet snacks in the Battery Place neighborhood.  And the Murray Street location is fantastic for lunch or a quick espresso.

It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for local comfort foods or foreign delicacies, Battery Park Market is chock full of both.  The prepared foods are fresh and made from locally sourced goods.  The cheese section and incredible sandwich counter make this place a must add to anyone’s repertoire of downtown food shops.

Battery Place Market also specializes in bringing in the best baked goods from around the city—don’t miss the delectable Robicelli’s cupcakes or Ceci Cela’s eclairs.

My interns tried the amazing Robicelli cupcakes: little slices of heaven topped with rich, fluffy, “ethereal” buttercream.  Their consensus? Two thumbs up.

The market has two locations at the moment: one LEED gold certified market in the Battery Place neighborhood and one space in North End Way near the Goldman Sachs headquarters.  Check out their website here!

Who We Love: International Playground

A darling little brick and mortar shop with a spectacular ecommerce site, International Playground brings unique cuts, trendy style and hip apparel to us style hungry acolytes in Manhattan.

The interior of the store is decorated in a subtle playground theme that adds to the stores appeal, rather than overwhelming the merchandise.  An ivy-covered arch bisects the store in two.  Wooden swings hang from the ceiling and function as both art installation and clothes racks.  And the clothes are fun, modern and fresh.

International Playground carries both women and men clothing.   Along with apparel, it is a haven for chic accessories like bangin’ sunglasses, rad bags, and geometric bathing suits.

In about three seconds, I found several items I desperately wanted: a pair of tropical printed trousers, orange ikat sneakers and a neon swimsuit.

Come check out International Playground at 13 Stanton Street, or their ecommerce website for more information and online shopping.

Kapture is a mobile app that rewards you for taking and sharing photos of the brands and services you love with your friends.
